How to Wear It

Closet Therapy

I dedicated the past long weekend for some much needed "closet therapy" - breaking the spell of wearing two pieces together, and only together, all the time. The challenge: take them out and make them play with others.

The top is from Libertine for Target, and the skirt is an Oscar de la Renta plastered black lace tube skirt lined with champagne satin. The blouse is black chiffon and has a Peter Pan collar in black chiffon and has two lace inserts in the front and the ¾ sleeves end with a thinner lace. It is buttoned in the back and has a sash that can be knotted in the front, cinching the waist, tied into a bow in the back. The tube skirt has an evening feel with the shiny patent painted lace, and I really wanted to see if it could be worn casually.

The Set

Frankly I find the set adorable, the almost couture skirt (I always wondered why Oscar has never been nominated a Couturier) and street couture top, the affordable version of an iconic brand. A few years after this Oscar de la Renta collection came out, Prada came out with a navy blue macramé lace lined in champagne satin. The ensemble can look preppy chic when worn with kitten heels, or on the edgier side when worn with knee-high boots.

The Blouse: Casual Evening Out

I am not a fan of the “jeggings” word nor concept, but these sparkly high-waisted skinny pants by Liu Jo come very close to the concept while remaining square in the pants department. To make the legs look even longer, I paired them with a pair of fierce black patent booties by YSL, perfect to contrast romanticism of the feminine blouse.

The Skirt: Dressed Down for Lunch with the Girls

Just because a skirt has an “evening” feel it doesn’t mean it can be worn with really flat daytime sandals. These flats, Allsaints Spitalfields, go resort all the way, dressing the skirt down to the level of lunch. The tank is black ribbed cotton semi plastered with platinum and it adds a rocker flair smoothened by a set of three informal bold necklaces in color block. Add some oversized shades for a look that is appropriate for a lunch at La Goulue.

I love mixing and matching pieces. Definitely puts a fresh spin on things. I just came across this blog and became a fan on FB. I plan on moving to south Florida in the next year. It'd be great to already know some bloggers in the area. :) Stop by my blog some time at http://stylelustpages.com!
