Mom's Free People Empire Top
This past weekend, the young Dakota celebrated the first of many birthday parties being held for her this month. (Because a single party is just not enough for this well-traveled and social tween with family and friends in two different cities – Miami and Chicago.)
Dakota has her own personal style: colorful, happy, coordinated, girlie and artistic. Her mother is a jewelry designer (hence her artistic skills and eclectic style) and Dakota adores snooping through her Mom's closet and, even more, through her jewelry kit. In honor of her birthday (11!) she asked me if she could choose an item from her mom's closet and style it from her own closet. Of course I said yes – what fun! She chose a sleeveless empire waist top by Free People in navy blue cotton jersey and burgundy velvet.

Going to middle school and leaving the cocoon of elementary school deserves a celebration worthy of prom night. For a "cool party" Dakota decided to wear the top as a short dress (but not too short - mom still approves) and pair it with gray suede wedges by Stuart Weitzman. The rivets in the shoes match the metal details on the top.

This look is really fab, and perfect for a sleepover party. Jeans by Limited Too with rhinestone details on the pockets and a pair of interesting BCBG gunmetal heels. To finish the look, we chose a f.b.c.reations limited edition black pearl necklace with silver skull and navy blue tassel, which I happened to be wearing at the time. Chapeau to her eye and her style combining dark grey, navy blue and burgundy. Brilliant!

Go comfy with coordinating navy blue leggings and a pair of sweet Stuart Weitzman sandals, whith rhinestone details at the heel.
