How to Wear It

An Embroidered Asymmetrical Skirt

Sol has a name befitting her personality: she’s vibrant, passionate, lively, and dedicated. Because she's a stylist, she likes to look her best all the time. She has a rule to "renovate, revolutionize and cleanse" her closet every six months. (Except from the shoes, which she continues to keep and accumulate.)

This skirt is a stunning piece from a La Perla sample sale from a few seasons ago, “when La Perla was still privately owned,” Sol explains. The skirt combines layers of chiffon; the top layer is embroidered with sequins and beads that form a floral pattern. It's asymmetrical and has a slit on the left side. Despite its beauty, Sol has only worn the skirt once - at the wedding for which she bought it. Because this Spring / Summer all about color, rather than purging it, she decided to get some inspiration on how to reinvent it.

Wear It As a Dress

One of our favorite solutions for a beautiful longish skirt is to wear it strapless. This skirt wouldn't work as a dress for most women, but Sol is petite and it looks great as a dress on her. Because the slit comes very high at the thigh, it's not right for everyday, but for a summery Sunday brunch, it works. Pair it neutral sandals and a striking necklace. The sandals pictured are Ralph Lauren, the necklace is f.b.c.reations.

At Work

Because Sol is a stylist, she can get away with dressing creatively at work. Because grey looks so good with hot pink, so she can layer a couple of heather grey t-shirts (these are by LNA) and add a pair of light pink open toe sandals (these are by Banana Republic). The look is a little sexy, but definitely scene stealer.

To the Beach

My number one rule is “nothing is ever too much,” and that rule guides this look. The skirt was originally bought for a formal event, but that doesn't mean you can't dress can't dress it down for the beach. Sol can top it with a tiny white t-shirt (the one pictured is from Abercrombie & Fitch) worn over a white bikini, slip into a pair of Havaianas, and hit her "secret" beach spot. (I tried to get it out of her, and she wouldn't budge.)
