A Classic Black Shift
Mary G. is a Miami native of Cuban descent, an only daughter educated in all-girl catholic schools and a graduate of UM. In other words, a typical Miami girl if there ever was one. Her passion for numbers and landed her a job in a commercial bank, then in a private bank and finally in her own private asset management business, which she runs alongside her husband.
Her wardrobe is an impeccably-organized cascade of black, grey and nude suit jackets and dresses. That’s why we were not expecting this black Calvin Klein Collection piece to be such a ghost. It is done in a perfect lightweight wool, making it suitable for wear year-round. But the deeply plunging neckline is what always causes her to think twice about wearing it.
The task of restyling the dress was easy. Trying to convince Mary to show some skin was the hard part. But at the end, everyone was happy (and she actually wore one of the options - at the opening of the Miami City Ballet this past weekend).

For her big night out, Mary paird the dress with an ivory silk georgette and velveteen maxi scarf with long silk fringe, gros grain kitten heels by Marc Jacobs and a limited edition Fendi by Karl Lagerfeld brass cuff.

It's ice-cold at the movies so why not pair the dress with a cardigan? We found Mary's vintage black crochet cardigan on a bottom shelf in her closet. It was handmade by her grandmother, who used to crochet every day. The crewneck detail covers the deep v-neck when it's all buttoned up, which eliminates the skin factor. A Miu Miu black denim handbag and a pair of zebra pony hair ballerina flats by Nine West tone the dress down nicely.

We dared her to go out (on day without clients) in this girly dress and hunter green rain boots by promising her that everything would be fine, and nobody would think she’s going gardening (or crazy). The outfit came together perfectly with the addition of a green degradé shawl worn as a scarf.
