A Black Tulle Skirt
Patricia L. moved from New York to Miami for a fresh start, and to be closer to family. Having always worked for major international fashion houses in NYC and Miami, her closet is full of couture – but to her, “It’s all a bore.”
She’s one of those lucky girls that gets to wear outfits fresh from the runway for her work at the Oscar de la Renta boutique in Bal Harbour. She’s eclectic, so much as she dresses up during the day, her personal style is still very simple. She wears a mix of rock and sexy – jeans and flats, t-shirts and leather jackets, and always layers of exotic and semiprecious accessories to make the look more feminine and spicy.
Her long tulle skirt with a wide waist elastic band and a big zipper in the back, was love at first sight and an impulsive buy at Forever 21. But it was only worn once and with little enthusiasm. As she tells it: “I enjoy dressing up women and making them look fabulous in their runway looks, and when it comes to my style, my dream is to open the closet and see a great lookbook.” Instead, the skirt hands in her closet like a misfit toy. By digging through her closet, we were able to come up with some ways to make it work.

She adores to walk through the bohemian galleries in Wynwood on the second Saturday of every month. To help her fit in with the ironic crowd, we paired the tulle skirt with a blazer. This one's by Dulce & Gabanna. Under the blazer we put a simple white t-shirt from The Gap, and finished the look off with a contrasting blue silk evening bag by Prada.

Patricia never thought of wearing the skirt as a strapless dress, but it's actually a great way to make use of a longer skirt. Here, we paired it with a pair of velveteen embellished d’Orsay by BCBG, and a maxi rhinestone and south seas maxi pearl necklace by f.b.c.reations. The purse is a flea market find from her NYC days.

Another strapless dress, but this time dressed down for day with Giuseppe Zanotti sandals, a Panama hat by Marc Jacobs and a turquoise necklace by f.b.c.reations.
