Are You a YSL?
Are you starved for sophistication? Groveling for glamour? Aching for A-list acceptance? Then you might be a YSL - a young, sophisticated lady. We can't say we blame you: at one time or another, we've all longed to live the good life. Just because you’re not an heiress or the girlfriend of a multimillionaire mogul doesn’t mean you can't live (or party) like one. This weekend, celebrate chicly.
Friday: Take Your Pulse
What: Pulse: Late Night at the New World Symphony
Where: New World Center
When: 10:00 p.m.
© Kain, DANNIJO, Forever 21, Michael Antonio, Bottega VenetaLooking for a little culture on your next Friday night out? Tired of no-class creepers, sticky bar-floors, and top-40 club hits? Well, you’re in luck because Miami’s newest nighttime trend is the perfect mix of high-brow symphony and South Beach cool. Enter, Pulse: Late Night at the New World Symphony, which debuts this Friday. Between sets by Julliard-educated DJ Mason Bates, fellows from the New World Symphony will perform solos of contemporary work by artists like Frank Zappa, against a projected backdrop of dreamlike visuals and scenes from Salvador Dali’s silent film, Un Chien Andalou. Oh, and there will definitely be cocktails, too.
As your Friday night gets a little upgrade, so should your favorite LBD. Ditch it in favor of the Kain Indira Silk Dress, which is light as air and has a modern, relaxed silhouette; a far cry from the too-short, too-tight club dresses of yore. Head-to-toe black is chic – not boring - for a symphonic soiree, so go monochromatic in Michael Antonio Teague Platform Sandals (which look expensive, but aren’t) and a classic woven Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Leather Clutch. Textured Silver Bangles from Forever 21 add a little fanciness, and have great movement. For a pop of color and textural style, add a multimedia Ora Necklace from DANNIJO (we hear that Natalie Portman is a fan) and a swipe of bright lipstick.

What: Movies on the Beach presents Breakfast at Tiffany's
Where: Bal Harbour Beach behind ONE Bal Harbour Resort and Spa
When: 8:00 p.m.
What to do post-shopping but pre-party on a Saturday? Indulge in a screening of every classy lady’s favorite film, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Best of all, it’s happening right on posh Bal Harbour beach, which means you can spend the day doing some serious shopping (even if it’s just of the window variety) close by before hitting the sand to watch a little Holly Golightly and channeling your inner Hepburn. Bring your own blanket, or lounge on linen couches and pillows provided by the resort, along with popcorn and cocktails.
Go from shops-to-shore in a loose, breezy Splendid Cotton Striped T-shirt; the gray-and-navy combo is subtly sophisticated, and looks great worn with Clemens en August White Jeans. Add a little visual interest with cut-out leather Diane von Furstenberg Madeline Sandals in rich tan, and Fevi Reyes Sparkling Lotus Stud Earrings in gold. Beat the breeze and give your look some unexpected quirk in a shrunken boy blazer, like the Navy Schoolboy Blazer from J. Crew.
Sunday: A Date with Oscar
What: Oscar Night America, Miami Beach
Where: Miami Beach Cinematheque at Historic City Hall
When: 7:00 p.m.
© Donna Karan, Rosanne Pugliese, Valentino, YSL, Linea PelleSo you’ve had your own Oscar parties at home, drinking champagne with your friends while playing fashion police and trying to accurately predict which of your favorite stars will once again be cheated out of the award they rightfully deserve. Sounds fun and all, but this year why not do it on a bigger scale at Miami Beach Cinematheque’s Oscar Night gala? It’s all for charity, so strut your stuff on the red carpet and sip champagne with ease before the live HD telecast of the Academy Awards (hosted by Hollywood-heartthrobs James Franco and Anne Hatheway, nonetheless) tunes in at 8:30.
This is the excuse you’ve been waiting for to showcase your red-carpet style! Why not wear a pretty party dress in formal black? The Jersey-Back Party Dress by Donna Karan is perfect for a Miami evening event, where we can get away with being a little more casual than proper floor-length gowns. Glam it up with bright turquoise Valentino Open-Toe Pumps with bows on the tows, and a colorful cocktail ring. This one is the Fake Chic Crystal Ring by Yves Saint Laurent. Simple gold Rosanne Pugliese Teardrop Earrings are stylish and unique without distracting from the clean lines of the dress, and a bright cobalt Linea Pelle Top Zip Pyramid Stud Mini Clutch adds just the right amount of edge to this class-act look.
