Dress to Kill
Every once in a while you stumble across a boutique that hits all the right fashion notes. The clothes, the accessories, the décor, everything just works. Enter Kiliwatch, the hipster’s paradise. Located in the trendy Design District that is quickly becoming the hottest shopping destination in Miami, Kiliwatch stands out amongst the abundance of boutiques in the area with their trendy clothing and distinctive furniture.
© Katherine McPherson / MFbOwned and run by brother and sister duo Paloma and Alban de Mazieres, Kiliwatch is stocked with funky pieces ranging from women’s and men’s clothing and accessories to furniture and artwork. “We carry street wear and avant garde pieces for the home,” says Paloma, who has a hand in every aspect of running the store, from buying to merchandizing and everything in between. “We go to Vegas, New York and lots of showrooms to find our merchandise,” she says. “Our family is originally from France, and there is actually a Kiliwatch in Paris, so a lot of the furniture and art that we carry are done by French designers.”
Furniture lovers will flip for the alien chairs (yes, we mean actual chairs that look like aliens) and tables that are featured prominently in the store. Also worth checking out are the acrylic chairs by Patrick Lavoix that range from colorful and black and white designs, to an Eiffel tower inspired chair. The artwork around the store is an eclectic mix ranging from copies of British street artist Banksy’s paintings, to portraits of Marylin Monroe and Bob Marley.
For the women, there are leggings and jeans by 6126, Lindsay Lohan’s unexpectedly stylish line, which also features handbags, dresses and a seriously amazing sequined blazer (rocked by Lynn Martinez on Deco Drive, no less). Jeans by Siwy and Jet Jeans will go perfectly with shirts by Torn by Ronny Kobo, Wild Fox and Chaser, and the accessories by Noir, Chan Lu and King Baby will complete the look. (Be sure to check out the amazing panther ring by Noir.) Kiliwatch also has the men covered with t-shirts and jeans from John Varvatos for Converse, Plain Jane Homme and Better off Dead.
With all the tempting choices available to you at Kiliwatch you may be wondering how you will manage to choose between everything you are going to want to take home with you. Easy: you don’t have to.
