Ready for the Weekend

There's No Place Like Home

Yes, we’re all a little sad that Art Basel is over, taking with it the massive creative energy and glamorous crowd it brings. But we're also more than a little excited to have the city back to ourselves, because the season has but just begun here in Miami! This weekend it’s all about staying local and connecting with the people and places that are unique to Miami and are proud to call the Magic City their home.

Where: Grand Central; 697 North Miami Avenue
When: 8:00 p.m. RSVP to info@modmediamiami.com

There’s nothing like a night spent at a fashion show; the new collections, the bright lights, the goodie bags of swag…sounds like a plan! This Friday lingerie-designer Priscilla Jade showcases her new Jar of Hearts Noir Collection for 2011. Influenced by the Miami designer’s passion for 1940s cinema starlets, the all-black collection of saucy skivvies is sure to please.

The models may be bearing it all in their retro bras and bustiers, but you can go ahead and take a cue from another sexy decade and show up in the 1970’s inspired Halston Heritage One-Shoulder Trapeze Dress in midnight navy blue, paired with extra-sparkly Metallic Glitter Tights from Forever21. This dramatic dress is perfect for a fashion event, so emphasize the silhouette with dangling Majestic Earrings from Josephina De Alba that bring attention to your bare shoulder. Metallic pewter LAMB Peep-toe Platform Pumps and an Urban Outfitters Star Cocktail Bag add modern glamour to this throwback look.

Saturday: Walk the Talk

Where: Wynwood Gallery District
When: 7:00 p.m.

Basel may have came and went, but the local scene is still going strong this weekend during the second-Saturday openings. See what you didn’t get to see during your busy-Basel week and get a first-look at what’s new locally. Be sure to check out all the completed murals that have been in progress all week, and keep an eye out for the Wynwood Market where you can shop for handmade goodies from local artists and designers.

Play into your art-connoisseur fantasies with a classic Black Turtleneck from James Perse. Tuck it into the high-waist See by Chloe Metallic Woven Skater Skirt for a sleek feminine shape. Wear it with sexy sophisticated Jimmy Choo Ella Riding Boots and a bright, attention-getting accessory like the Tarina Tarantino Classic Cameo Mod Ring –the shocking pink and gold is very Miami. Break up all the black with a Stripe Sweater Jacket from Pink Tartan and hit the streets.

Sunday: Breakfast + Lunch =

Where: Buena Vista Bistro; 4582 NE 2nd Avenue
When: 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Buena Vista Bistro might just be the Design District’s best hidden gem; located just up the street from swanky boutiques and restaurants, you’ve probably missed it a hundred times, though we know you’ve heard others raving about it. Serving simple, fresh French food in a charming ambiance until late night, Buena Vista Bistro is a favorite of those in the know. On Sundays they open their doors early for a decadent brunch experience.

The Missoni M Fuchsia/Petrol Dress featuring the signature Missoni zig-zag pattern in an updated color scheme is no-brainer for brunch. Make it an unexpected combo with fancy, sparkly Miu Miu Crystal Embellished Brogues and Wet Seal Triple Gold Hoops, and then dress it back down with a Coldwater Creek Denim Boyfriend Jacket and utilitarian canvas State & Lake Army Messenger Bag. The end result is as chic as your surroundings. Bon appétit!
