The Sweater Dress: Reinvented
Long gone are the sweater dresses of the past. You know, those chunky, oversized frocks that would leave you looking less than flattering. While raiding our mothers closets are usually one of our favorite pastimes, it’s time to embrace the fresh take designers have used for this seasons must have: the sweater dress. Keeping warm is key, but staying stylish is what we aim for.
We turn to MINKPINK for our first updated piece. The Cheet’n Heart Sweater Dress encompasses some of our favorite on-trend features while still keeping us warm. You can never go wrong with a basic animal print, especially as an extra layer of warmth. We love the long sleeves, finely knit fabric, and scoop neck of this

Next, Lilly Pulitzer shows us a side of sophistication with the Merino Wool Sweater Dress. Again, this piece features long sleeves and a scoop neck, but tailors to a sailor theme. We love the tie-belt that cinches your waist to show off your individual silhouette and bold stripes that add detail to simplicity. Pair this wool dress with some sheer tights and peep toe pumps.
Alexander McQueen never steers us wrong, and with his McQ line, he brings us another animal inspired piece to add to this trend. The Zebra Sweater Dress features an artsy intarsia zebra stripe pattern, ribbed edges, and long sleeves. The boat neck allows for more coverage, while the mixture of knits keeps you comfortable and cozy. We would love to see this dress with a pair of combat boots or over-the-knee boots.
Lastly, we bring you the Falcon Sweater Dress from ALICE by Temperley. Everyone loves a good turtleneck, and this piece combines that feature with a royal blue and white intarsia pattern, ribbed edges, and long raglan sleeves. We love the pattern for its oldschool feel and would pair this dress with some ankle booties.
So what do you think of the updated sweater dress? Are you a fan of reinvention or would you rather stick to the original?
