Dressing Up Classic Khakis

Here's a staple of everyone's closet. Whether you live in cold or warm climate, Europe, the Americas or Asia; whether you're a man, woman, or child, young or old, you've got a pair of khaki pants. You most likely think of your khakis as a boring necessity, a "uniform" you wear grocery shopping or to kid's birthday parties. But we're sure Khaki would like to come out of the closet a bit more often, even – gulp – at night. Here's our effort to bring them up to the level of your fab nights out.

A First Date

Dressing for a first date is crucial. You want to look good, but not like you're trying too hard. Enter the khaki, champion of understated appeal. Dress up the Plain Jane pants with a romantic blouse.

This silk crinkled chiffon, delicate lace pale yellow shirt by Oscar de la Renta works nicely. The sleeves are pleated and bell shaped, and the blouse is open in back, coming together with silk buttons at the back of the neck and at the waist, making it oh, so sexy. Worn with chinos and a pair of vintage distressed brass open toe sandals, all you need is a splash of gold jewelry to make the outfit first date proof. Just don't spill red wine down the front.

You can dress up almost anything with a pair of black loafers. The ones pictured are from Prada, and they're perfect for loafing around the Design District. Paired with a grey tank (the one pictured is from All Saints Spitalfields), a neutral, over-sized cardigan from Abercrombie & Fitch, a black nappa Gucci purse, and a string of pearls and maxi Swarowsky beaded necklaces, the outfit comes together for a masculine, architectural look with a bit of feminine sparkle.
