Dress Like a Lady

Lady-like dresses are sometimes far and few between. With so many silhouettes and cuts out there, it may become a little hazy determining whether a dress is classy or trashy. The trick is to never show too much skin. As a rule of thumb, if you’re going to work the legs, cover the top – and vice versa. Now, here are some of our favorite lady-like options that certainly lead the pack.

© Free People, Alice + Olivia, TuckerFor the Bohemian Lady, I bring you the Lace Puff Sleeve Dress by Free People. With the appropriate mid-thigh length, long sleeves, and scoop neck coverage, this is a classic staple with incredible detail. The luxe cream lace offers a feminine touch with its contrast jersey slip. While we love a sharp shoulder a la Michael Jackson, I’m thrilled that this dress offers a softer version for a little extra edge. I would pair this dress with some ankle booties and statement rings for a complete look.

For the understated and exotically chic, I bring you the Flyn Faux Snakeskin Dress by Alice + Olivia. A cap sleeve shift dress is a go-to when you’re looking for an effortless, yet style conscious look. I love the shimmer of the snakeskin print and the way this dress hugs every curve. This is the perfect example of looking sexy without showing too much skin. Style this dress with structured, bright colored pumps and tights to finish off your ensemble.

For the disco lady, I introduce you to the Disco Dress by Tucker. While this cut is very Diane von Furstenberg, Tucker adds an elastic waist, ruched sleeves, and an edgy slit to liven up this piece. The v-neck and slit don’t show off too much skin, but the longer sleeves offer a great balance. My favorite feature of this dress? The sundial print. Pair this silk separate with strappy heels and an understated clutch for a polished finish.
