Tired of the Beach? We've Got You Covered

Lucky for us, November in Miami is not like November in the rest of the country. Whereas our northern brethren bide their time under a low grey sky, our fun is just beginning. With so much to do around town this month, your calendars are probably filling up quickly. If if you've still got room on yours, check out our pics for this weekend.

Friday: Party Over Here, Party Over There

What: Miami Music Festival
Where:  Various Locations throughout Miami - click here for the schedule
When: 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

© Vince, Alexis Bittar, Free People, Tory Burch, Elizabeth and James, Stephane VerdinoSometimes it seems like the same bands are playing the same clubs, playing the same music on the same circuit. So if you’ve been longing to hear something new, thank god for the Miami Music Festival. Featuring hundreds of new and emerging artists from practically every genre, plan to make a night of it- check out the Friday night schedule on the MMF website and be sure to check out a few different venues to get full the effect of what’s new in music in Miami.

If you need a look that works in a multitude of settings all night long, you can never go wrong with black. Super-skinny black Bardot Pants from Elizabeth and James have a sleek fit that’s chic enough for nighttime. Pair them with a sexy, slouchy cardigan like the Vince Slub Striped Cardigan-the boxy silhouette sets off the tight pants and doesn’t reveal too much. Now step up your basic black with bold accessories- starting with to-die-for metallic purple Laced Shoes from Stephane Verdino, which look great with the ankle-grazing pant. Then add big Gold Button Earrings from Alexis Bittar, and a Free People Rhinestone Burst Ring- both are eye-catching without being obnoxious. A small, shiny bag in a neutral metallic like the Tory Burch Snake Embossed Mini-bag is all you need to complete your look and house your wallet on the go.

Saturday: Do Good, Look Great

What: Farofa Nation Trunk Show
Where: Apricot Lane Boutique: 8888 Southwest 136th Street
When:  Noon to 5:00 p.m.

© Just Cavalli, Rebecca Minkoff, Giuseppe Zanotti, House of Harlow, Citrine by the StonesWho says community service can’t coincide with shopping? Shop for a cause this Saturday at the Farofa Nation Trunk Show, and 100 percent of your purchase of any Farofa Nation t-shirt goes directly to TASK Brazil, an organization that works with homeless children and pregnant teens on the streets of Brazil. Each shirt is artist-designed and expertly printed on American Apparel t-shirts in a variety of fashionable fits and colors. Local painter Juan Pablo Patina will also be at there, working live on a piece for the event.

Try a casually-cut dress in an extreme pattern, like the Just Cavalli Zebra Print Dress. Though it looks high-fashion, it’s actually made of stretch jersey and slips on right over your head. Slide into Giuseppe Zanotti Studded Toe-Ring Flat Sandals for stylish simplicity, and forego any long necklaces or dangly earrings that might get in the way of the clean lines of the dress. Instead, opt for a statement bracelet, like the House of Harlow Art Deco Bangle complete with a creamy moonstone right in the center. Add movement with a stack of delicate Large Wire Bangles from Citrine by the Stones. The Rebecca Minkoff Five-Zipper Clutch echoes the edgy feel of the dress and studded sandals, so throw it over your shoulder and stroll over to Apricot Lane.

Sunday: You Can Brunch When You Want To

What: Late Brunch
Where: Mia at Biscayne: 20 Biscayne Boulevard
When: 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

© Halston Heritage, TopShop, Asos, CooperativeIf you must sleep away one of your weekend mornings, make it Sunday because Mia at Biscayne has an exquisite extended brunch available until 7:00 pm. So get up whenever you feel like it and then head over to Mia to lounge in the luxurious interiors and leisurely graze away the final hours of the weekend.

Mia’s atmosphere is that of carefully considered comfort and style, so take that into consideration when creating your look. The Halston Heritage Jersey Wrap Dress looks luxe, but is actually made from ultra-comfortable stretch jersey; plus, navy blue is the ultimate color for when you must exude understated luxury. Chunky Cooperative T-Strap Wedges are casual but still special, and the red looks rich paired with navy.  A Leather Woven Tassle Bag from TopShop is an updated take on a sophisticated classic. And because we can’t resist just a little flash, don the ASOS Tiger Head Earrings and put your hair up to show them off.

Sunday also marks the first day of the annual Miami Book Fair, and while there won’t be any vendors to peruse until next weekend, Sunday night boasts the opening of the public arts project, Giants in the City, a collection of enormous inflatable nylon sculptures. Be sure to scope it out after brunch - it’s taking place right around the corner at the Wolfson campus of Miami Dade College.
