Style Equals Substance

What does it mean to have style? Is it something you buy? Is it something you inherit? Is it something you learn? Ask Miami Fashion Week founder Beth Sobol and she might tell you that style is all about what you do. Because all the women honored at last week's Miami Style Awards are big doers.

Style Award winner and philanthropist Lea Black hosts an annual gala to benefit charities that focus on health, education and prosperity for all, and she does it all with her fabulous smile.

Style Award winner and shoe designer Lisa Pliner makes killer shoes for women and builds playgrounds for children all around the world through her organization, Peace for Children.

Style Award winner Abigail Pollak is an attorney, a philanthropist and a political activist. In addition to her political work, she's worked with the charities Cancer Schmancer, Mission International Rescue, Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center, and the South Florida Youth Foundation, and she absolutely wows in Valentino.

Style Award winner and editor Alexis Eschevarria brings high fashion and culture to Spanish-speaking audiences in the U.S. through her magazine, VENUE.

And Style Award winner Loren Ridinger does it all. She's created a line of skincare, Cellular Laboratories, a line of cosmetics, Motives, and a line of jewelry, Loren Jewels. She's been named one of Vogue's Top 100 most influential women, and has worked with many charities, including Rally for Kids with Cancer, which she co-Chairs with Eva Longoria Parker.

So, what does it mean to have style? It means to do as good as you look.

And on Thursday, the Style Award winners looked great as they hobnobbed with local designers, world class models and other do-gooders on a night that will be remembered long after the winds died down.
